For the second leg of the Europa League 3rd round match against Juventus, Rovers travelled away to Modena in Italy. The Hoops, along with their large travelling contingent of fans, hoped to take as much away from their hosts as possible, making for an enjoyable game where the difference between the teams was measure by one sublime free kick from Juventus' Alessandro Del Piero. The match went ahead even though the conditions meant the fixture was in the balance for a while, with thunderstorms threatening to turn the game into water polo rather than football, but the pitch held up well enough for the referee to let the game continue. Although it is always disappointing to lose, Rovers' players did themselves proud playing against one of the better teams in the world and can hold their heads up high even though this mean the European dream came to and end for another year.
