  • This song is so beautiful. I think Paul Simon might be the greatest American songwriter of the 20th century, above even Bob Dylan.

  • Another great thing about Paul Simon songs is that do not just stand the test of time, but they fully stand the test of bad audio too.

Who cares whether the chorus has authentic Peruvian instruments or not? The new instruments do what they should do: they plant in your brain the recollection of the song as it should be. You see the condor flying, don't you? Even in spite of narrow audio bandwidth and the distortion. And every word is where and what is should be. Classic song.

  • I don't care what anyone says, for me Paul Simon is the pinnacle of songwriters, there is no one above him, but hey, that's my opinion, everyone else is entitled to theirs :) cheers

  • This song was inspired after he traveled to Peru...arriba Peru!!!!

  • @padraic2001eire Not too shabby, these American Jews! I have the impression Dylan redefined what songs could be more than Paul Simon ever did, though. Take Subterranean Homesick Blues for example. The word 'well-crafted' springs to mind with Paul Simon, much as I adore him.

  • @irishace11 thw way i see it , bob dylan is the greatest song writer and paul simon is the best songwriter, thhe lyyricas that bob writes are mindblowing but paul really polishes his songs to perfection , there arn't many "bad "paul simon songs.

  • There's plenty of room on the stage for more that one Awesome singer. Ain't worth arguing over.

  • Best song ever written, imho; thank you, Paul, for letting the first version evolve or whatever it did, into this. peace&love

  • Dylan's seminal, as was Lennon, but no one's as literate as Paul Simon, both musically and lyrically, unless you want to proffer Stephen Sondheim, but then S. S.'s in a different genre.

  • Actually, it's not hard to argue at all. Dylan is Shakespeare and all other singer songwriters will cop to that. Brian Wilson, McCartney, Lennon, Paul Simon, James Taylor. Ask them.

  • @irishace11 It's hard to argue who's greater then who.. and kind of pointless. But I'd argue that Simon, Dylan, etc. define their generation of American songwriters and all will be remembered as some of the greatest songwriters of their generation. Simon also ended up with some of the most influential albums in press (BoTW, Graceland, Soundtrack to Graduate, etc)
