For our recent family reunion, we had an electronic craft project for the older cousins (ages 10 to 16). We chose Lady Ada's Game of Life kit. As each kit was assembled, it was tested and then plugged into the others. We ended up with ten kits, all interacting with each other. It was mesmerizing. Thanks Timor!

The kit comes with green diffuse LEDs, but I wanted to let the kids pick out their own colors. I picked some colors out of DigiKey that had about the same voltages. Some of the older kids actually drew out patterns, but it doesn't really show since they are flashing in different patterns anyway.
