The disciples of one of Tibet's spiritual leaders held a peaceful protest in Dharmsala. They denounced allegations of money laundering and of him being a Chinese spy.

Buddhist monks, including nuns and disciples, of the Karmapa Lama staged a silent march of solidarity in his support in Dharmsala on Wednesday.

They voiced their objection to allegations of the high-ranking Tibetan spiritual leader of being involved in money laundering and also of being a Chinese spy.

[Sonam Dorje, President, Tibetan Youth Congress]:
"Many of the Tibetan Buddhists and also the disciples all over the parts of India are coming to Dharmsala to support His Holiness Karmapa and today whatever you see is a spiritual walk that we are going to do."

[Dolma, Tibetan Buddhist Nun]:
"We participated in this rally to support His Holiness the Karmapa to prove that he is an innocent. He was alleged to have links with China and we think that this is (these are) all allegations. This is not true. We have 100 percent faith in him that all this money came from donation."

Last week police had raided the monastery of the Karmapa Lama in Dharmsala, and recovered currency of at least 25 countries worth over $1.3 million during the operation.

Authorities believe that the Karmapa Lama is a part of a plan of the Chinese to control Buddhist monasteries.

Police recently detained the personal secretary, the treasurer and a close aide of the Karmapa Lama.

The Karmapa Lama is regarded as the third most important leader in the Tibetan hierarchy after the Dalai Lama and the Panchen Lama.

He is widely tipped by many to lead the Tibetan movement-in-exile after the Dalai Lama.
