Viseu Cidade de Viriato - part 1

This is the first video from our trip to Viseu, my hometown in Portugal between 1999 and 2006. It is the regional capital of Beira Alta and is located north of Lisboa and south of Porto, in the interior on the road to Spain. The altitude of the city is more than 500 metres above sea level and to the south you have the mountain range of Serra da Estrela - The Star Mountain - reaching up to 2000 metres above sea level. It is not where the main stream of tourists go, but I can recommend a visit, to the city itself, with its multitude of restaurants for any taste and wallet and to the district around, from the mountains in the south to the valley of Douro in the north. And it is a must for wine lovers! The Dão-region produces some of the best wines in the country.
And Viriato? He was a freedom fighter, leading a rebellion against the Romans, said to come from this area.

@izyferreira Thanks for the nice comments. If you haven't been there since 1996, you should consider a trip:) It is still the same city although there have been a lot of changes and for the better, I would say.

thanks for the great video i love the place we usualy stay in ranhados but we also stayed at the grao vasco last time we were there.viseu is where i want to retire again thanks..

Nice that you liked it. So, Ranhados? I lived there the last 3 years I stayed in Viseu but didn´t get around to go there while I had the camera with, although we were close (at Palácio do Gelo). Had a flat just across from the church. We stayed in a flat in Quinta da Carreira, close to the weekly market, you know? And yes, I hope to return, too:)

thanks i loved your video and i do so hope to get back there very soon my wife is from ranhados.. i fell in love while there we spend time in queluz visiting family and i enjoy walking through out lisboa in all the little out of the way places. portugal is in my heart and always on my mind.

Yes, it is easy to fall in love with Portugal and the people:) Then I guess your wife know where I lived, because although things are changing, the church has been there for a while. We are actually buying the flat I mentioned so in around 5 years time, we can move down if we want:) In any case, we will have a holiday home.

Eu que o diga que já fui arguida num processo do ministério publico-remetido pelo sr.Presidente da Camara de Viseu....só porque disse a verdade ...só a verdade e apenas a verdade!!!! ficou provado que eu tinha razão no que disse...mas a srª drª juiza (porque se tratava de Fernando Ruas)condenou-me a pagar ao assistente 2 500 euros...!!!! (ele tinha pedido 20 000 euros) que eu paguei, mas fiquei a mesma pessoa!!! para o sr.presidente da camara deve lhe ter dado geito para pagar...adivinhem o quê!

NAO SE DEIXEM ENGANAR amigos de todo mundo...as aparências iludem!!!quem trabalha debaixo dos pés, das ordens intimistas, da perseguição e muito mais....contra a maioria dos funcionários que trabalham para a Autarquia que apenas tem deveres e direitos nenhuns...não pode de forma alguma ser um bom profissional...acordar todos os dias e ir trabalhar para a CAMARA DE VISEU...é um autêntico pesadelo!!!! e o pior é que não se acorda do sonho...porque dura há 22 anos!!!!

Só as coisas "boas" da cidade de Viseu aparecem para "ingles ver"!!! cidade de Viriato...não é o nome certo é cidade de Fernando Ruas!!!! manda,desmanda,faz e desfaz e os visienses (como ele os chama) nada dizem...ou antes na frente concordam com tudo...de costas criticam mas nada fazem!!!! que raio de oposição politica existe na Camara de Viseu???ou será que tem todos"o rabo preso"'''para fazerem figuras de cera, mais valia ficarem em casa...tem todos muito "medo" do sr.presidente da Camara..
