In terms of power to weight ration, definitely, and for ingenuity too, it is a winner. But the shape within which cobustion takes place is less good for efficiency, I think. The deforming parallelogram rotor is brilliant!
Considering that there are four detonations per revolution instead of four strokes per detonation--theoretically--I'd say it should easily beat the hell out of a piston engine.
