Somalia: Building Stability and Peace

Speaking at Chatham House HE Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke warned that without urgent action in Somalia, insurgency will continue and the terrorist threat will increase. He added that the causes of piracy as well as the symptoms need to be addressed.

It is sad indeed to see Somalia in anarchy. But the question is: can the present so called leaders restore law and order, build government institutions and deliver services ?

Somalia fits well Hobbe's description of a State of Nature, where life was " nasty, short and brutish' for all.

Sharmarke is Western educated, served in diplomatic capacity with UN but talks like a primary school kid with no diplomatic skills.

This guy is a waste of political space, and so do the rest.

Mr. Sharmarke SENIOR R.I.P run for the office and campaigned very hard and some people say that many people were promised for positioning in the government if they voted for him and lots of money was used to pay votes. I am not old enough to know this, but lots of older people who were old and educated enough that I had conversations with told me this fact. I don not believe that any one was ever elected democratically in Somalia ever. Aden Abdulla Osman RIP was selected and he really did not want to run for reelection and did not campaigned for reelection.

Man with his educational background, he should not be reading off a paper. I am young and I know most of the issue in Somalia. This speech should be coming out off his mind not from paper sad for Mr. Sharmarke. He is so busy reading off the paper he does not even have time to take look at the audience Eye contact is the key in the world. You are not your father and your father is not you. Sorry
