Physics 10: Physics for Future Presidents. Spring 2006. Professor Richard A. Muller. The most interesting and important topics in physics, stressing conceptual understanding rather than math, with applications to current events. Topics covered may vary and may include energy and conservation, radioactivity, nuclear physics, the Theory of Relativity, lasers, explosions, earthquakes, superconductors, and quantum physics. • Just finished watching all the videos. I feel like I just graduated. I spent 5 years at a large university and never had a class this interesting. Well done Professor Muller and thank you to UC Berkeley for posting this course. This has completely jump started my interest in physics and I'd love to find a similar course that takes things to the next level.

  • Don't fall under the assumption that this is a generic physics class these lectures were designed for students studying non science related majors who would benefit from a conceptual overview of general physics, if you want to study physics, which is cool, be ready for a shit load of math! its one thing knowing the ideas its another mathematically proving the theory thats the difference between "physics for future presidents" and physics!

  • this shouldn´t be called "physics for future presidents" but instead be called "physics that everybody should know"

Every single human should learn these basics of physics... it is my belief that many people would apreciate life and the earth a bit more if everybody had this basic knowledge of physics and also help to make more rational decisions when it comes to controversal political issues

  • what a great series. i am SO thankful someone put these up on youtube! life changing. i want to study physics now but yeah... not really into the math. this conceptual stuff was amazing! thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!!!

  • I think that the Higgs Field is the point at which it no longer makes sense to set up analogies that our ape brains can intuitively understand. It's somewhat less classical than Relativity. And the idea of Einstein and/or Margaret Thatcher trying to cross a crowded room works somewhat less well than the raisin bread analogies "explaining" spatial expansion. There comes a time when we must embrace logical consistency and mathematics, and deemphasize intuition, when making sense of the Universe.

  • The Astronomy course he recommends is available on Google video.

    Search for:

    "UC Berkeley - Astro 10"

  • awesome.

  • I have to disagree about his talk about infinity, he says that it currently looks like the universe is infinite, it's certainly not viewed as such, he needs to update that information. Infinity in physics has a flawed logic, it only works in mathematics.

I have downloaded all the 26 videos, I look forward to see them :-)

  • thanks!

  • I like the way he lectures! Makes it nice to imagine!

  • About my videoreaction. Its my theory about atoms being vortexes. Its called The vortex theory.

I cooked it up during camping this summer and actually before i started to watch al those UCTV lectures and the more alternative videos like those from haraseim or 10thdim. Please do not burn me for this, it is just an idea thats still running trough the back of my mind so i take the courage to share it here and see where it ends.
