"Revolution" was a recipient of the 2010 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer's Award.

Thank you to Chris Merz; without his instruction and knowledge, I would not be where I am today. If you want to study jazz, go to the University of Northern Iowa.

The Hempstead 15 was my inspiration for writing "Revolution". I was so moved, so horrified after watching what happened outside of the final 2008 presidential debates between McCain and Obama in Hempstead, NY that it steered me a brand new direction on the large jazz band ensemble piece I was working on.

The solo section (guitar @1:40) was what went through my mind though shortly after watching the film that is shown @1:40. The beginning and the end of the piece grew from this climactic point stuck in my brain.

Revolution is written for 1 soprano sax, 1 clarinet/tenor sax, 1 alto sax, 1 baritone sax, 4 trumpets, 3 trombones, 1 bass trombone, guitar, piano, vibraphone, upright bass and drums.

Please comment and rate ~ this is my first attempt at making a video and sticking it on youtube.

  • Umm...you do realize that McCain would only further cut musical program funding like every other republican party member did?

  • Who says I like McCain? I've never supported McCain and never will. I don't care about Republicans or Democrats or what CNN/Fox says. My question to you is this: how did you derive from this video that I support McCain? I'm very confused by your statement and if you could clarify it that would great.

Just for the record, I consider myself a classical liberal. So look it up and see if you think I would support McCain or not.

  • This is awesome. I'm thinking of submitting something myself.

  • @GuitarRHCPfan Sorry, didn't see this comment. But still, think about the point about music funding. Why should that be funded from our imperial capital? Are we really that helpless?

  • @GuitarRHCPfan Obviously the maker of the video doesn't favor McCain! Try to think beyond Savage A and Savage B. Second, why should musical "funding" depend on the whims of some imperial overlord a thousand miles away? Why shouldn't it be funded by the community? (And indeed, 99% of the time, it is.)

  • Sorry, I read your thing wrong, I thought by your statement about what happened in New York was just Obama's election in general. I thought you were against it, however you are reacting to an incident in new york. I apologize, I should have looked at it more carefully...Im liberal myself. Once again, sorry for misreading it!

  • Amazing! Very well done. The video is clutch too. Thank you for your hard work.

We need more Revolution music! There have been some great songs put out there during and since the campaign! Hey you revolutionaries out there, pick up your instruments, mics and pens and keep creating!

We can get our message through using music as well!

  • Bravo! to you and to the brave vets who dared to ask questions. This is a government of the banksters, for the banksters by the banksters. END THE FED

  • Totally awesome!!! Keep it up!!!

  • Outstanding! I thought the jazz was great on its own. But the video and the sentiment elevate this to high art.

    Keep 'em coming!
