Kantoam Ming is funeral music with gongs, drums and a reed instrument - one of Cambodia's rarest art forms. The sralai is a Khmer (Cambodian) musical instrument. It is the only wind instrument in the pinpeat, a classical ensemble of wind and percussion instruments. Its quadruple reed is made of palm leaf, and its body has a slightly conical bore. Its cousin, the Western oboe, has a double reed and a conical bore.

Cambodian Living Arts works to support the revival of traditional Khmer performing arts and to inspire contemporary artistic expression. CLA supports arts education, mentorship, networking opportunities, education, career development, and income generating projects for master performing artists who survived the Khmer Rouge as well as the next generation of student artists.

  • These two master are the very good sample for all Cambodian to work together to preserve our culture.

  • @sivhengu - Well said! The Thais love to, shamelessly, claim everything theirs. It's so sad to see Khmer government does little to preserve ancient Khmer art such as Kantoam Mind and Kse Diev. Our masters of such rare and unique instruments should revered and funded as they get very old and soon will be lost forever.

  • Or kun chrern, thanks you!

  • my great grandfathers thats from the same province siem reap i remember my dad telling me that when he was younger my great grandfathers they played this khmer traditional music kantoam ming for those who had past away and this was during the 1950's when my dad was young

  • Thank you for sharing and keeping our traditional music alive, that's the only way we can preserve it before somebody else claim for their own. Because of the war and it sets us back 100 years, and it seems like everythihg we had now become other's, we almost loose it. If we don't have Angkor Wat and the carvings to prove what we have, we problably become nothing. Others can say what they want, but we have proof on the carving. Best wishes to all!
