can i find a bug zapper transformer in every bug zapper or are there sometimes capacitors and diodes???sorry for the bad english

Ya see the shunts between the primary and secondary? Grind a mm or two off :D. My bug zapper transformer puts out i think 30ma at 3500v, measure with a shunt resistor for current and resistive divider for the voltage. 105 watts :D. Now you can actually draw an arc...

nice I just got one of those transformers and the core is totally rusted but it still works fine

Very nice comact tesla coil, you must change primary coil u must give 6-7 not 2

I built one with a bug zapper some years ago. I used a tertiary winding on mine. When the spark gap didn't have and carbon tracks, I was getting 3 to four inch streamers. You might get better arking if you use a small hollow steal ball as your top capacitor. I used a old brass door knob once for a turoid. Nice clean look for a non-solid state table top coil. Awsome :)

I just threw this together. There were some mistakes made. The coupling is fixed and cannot be adjusted and the primary is fixed at 3.25 turns. I added washers of increasing diameter to the topload until I got optimum arcs. If I were to build another bug zapper coil, I would do a few things differently. It would be nice to change the topload to a sphere, but unless it has exactly the same capacitance as the washers, I would be unable to adjust the primary to accommodate it.
