When folks respond to antagonists, I feel the "protagonists" are somehow encouraging what the bad guy started by throwing more back at them. It is as simple as condoning whatever you "don't" want in your presence. Those who try to fight the web of life can contradict, but they cannot fight it. Opposites are along the same line. Like north and south. Yeah. There are no curses found in the Cherokee language. Wah Doh.
