Tribal art from Papua New Guinea's Sepik River Valley.
Exhibited by Plattsburgh State University of New York and curated by Marc Assayag.
Masks are Integral to the rituals and ceremonies of Papua New Guinea. Always a representation of an ancestral spirit, masks are produced using a wide variety of materials.
Shields are found in great variety in Papua New Guinea. Often of large size, the designs on their faces are typically clan designs meant to instill fear in the enemy.
Flutes and stoppers are sacred objects. Used only by men in the skin cutting (tattooing)and other ceremonies, the sound of the flute is seen as the voice of the spirit.
Among the most revered and sacred objects of the Latmul people, Orators Stools are the pulpits from where important speeches and debates are delivered. Eah village would have such a chair standing at the center of the men's house.
Nice video, fine impression of some tribal art items.
I like it. I have a comment. Maybe music to nice for this kind of art? You can give this papua art(last headhunters) more power by heavier music.
