Our son Shawn was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome in August 1998. NOT diagnosed in utero, he was extremely sick when he underwent the first surgery, the Norwood. Now, post-Fontan, Shawn has been waiting for a heart transplant at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford since April 14, 2006. As of this writing, we have been here - away from our home in Eagle River, Alaska for 2 years. Shawn is listed as a 1B status due to the Protein Losing Enteropathy after Fontan that he was diagnosed with in July 2003. shawn's progress....www.thestatus.com, patient: stockwell password: plum-vanilla **SHAWN RECEIVED HIS HEART TRANSPLANT JULY 31, 2008**

  • Trista, I just saw this and I can hardly breathe! It's been really tough for me lately and seeing those photos of Shawn set to a song I know only too well was almost too hard to watch. I think it takes an extra special person to be a "heat mom"...I'm glad God thought we were special enough. I love you guys. Take care.

  • Celeste, I think of you, Jeff and John all the time. I miss you guys, and will miss you even more when we make it home to Alaska you aren't my neighbor :( as heartbreaking and unfair as the experience has been, I am so glad that our HLHS sons brought us togehter as friends. We love you guys...Trista

  • Shawn is so wonderful and watching that video I saw so much compassion in him. You should be very proud of him. What a wonderful little boy you have, so strong and so happy.

  • we are so, so proud of Shawn. He IS incredibly compassionate...he cares for other children here in the hospital so much. He is incredible, and he never complains...never. Thank you so much for your kind words...Shawn's Mom :-)

  • I just read in the Star that Shawn got his heart. I am so overjoyed right now. I pray for full recovery. I love your family and Shawn even though I have never met you all. Congratulations. Let Shawn know that even in Kansas we are praying for him.

  • We in Alaska are overjoyed with the news that Shawn finally has a new heart. The courage and perseverance that he (and his entire family) has displayed is incredibly uplifting. May God continue to keep you all in His care. We can't wait for Shawn to come home! God bless ALL your hearts!

  • This touched me. My brother was born with hypoplastic left heart as well. He has taught me so much, and I look up to him. The doctors said he would never live to be a teenager.... and here he is, still kickin at 15! Never lose hope, because that's all you've got. My brother is still waiting for a transplant, and I hope someday he will be as lucky as Shawn was. Thanks for the inspiration and hope.
