Juarez, Mexico is currently one of the world's most dangerous places.

This 4-minute video report for Round 2 of the YouTube and Pulitzer Center "Project: Report" challenge takes a look at how Mexico's current war on cartels is affecting the lives of Juarez residents and the country as a whole.

----------------

BREAKING: Armando Rodriguez, crime reporter for the El Diario newspaper in Juarez, Mexico, was assassinated yesterday, November 13, 2008, in front of his daughter while preparing to take her to school. He leaves behind a wife and three children. He was 40 years old. Please see the follow news reportage for more information:

----------------

It appears the situation is deteriorating further. In the wake of Armando's death, another prominent journalist in Juarez, Jorge Luis Aguirre, received a death threat. He has fled to the US indefinitely:

Thanks to Juarez local band, 0P3R4D0R, for letting me sample their song, "Huella" for the intro sequence. They have a great sound born of the border, and I encourage anyone interested in this documentary to check them out here:

  • @valtierra2966 look at the date the video was posted.

  • Did he say he was 30 years old but was born in 1978?

  • @junkers1337 Mexico city already IS corrupted

  • it amazes me that given the living conditions that people in juarez have to live under they still speak properly and sound educated...unlike the kids in america that are actually (in comparison to this) privileged to be living in their projects..absolutely amazed by this...

  • And of course the U.S. has helped the drug gangs by supporting their routes and by giving them guns, that lead to one of their boarder patrol agents getting killed, not to mention all the innocent people!

  • See the real problem is the country won't pass a law that will permit people to carry guns! How stupid is that, that good people have no right to defend them selves!

  • Its only a matter of time before the corruption infects Mexico City. Considering current trends, I predict the Government of Mexico to Cartel controlled by 2025.

  • @fuckdig1000 That solves one problem, but what about the other drugs, and illegal activities?

  • siempre en estos reportajes gringos pasan lo mas feo de Juarez, por ejemplo anapra ¬¬"
