*this amazingly high-quality recording of a Joni concert is DEFINITELY one that everyone should have. Its origins are completely mysterious, though -- it circulates as "Germany 1968", but Joni didn't play in Germany in 1968. During the intro to "Dr. Junk" she talks about her visit to Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, and since she first played Fayetteville on January 3rd, 1967 and again in May of that year, her remark that the visit was "about 2 years ago" suggests that this performance took place in 1969. The presence of "Dr Junk" in the setlist would argue against the show being far into that year, since she considered it a throwaway song that didn't stay in her repertoire for very long. The best guess, then, would be very early 1969, but ... -- although perhaps it COULD be Germany (did she play there in 1969? the jonimitchell.com chronology has no record of any European dates between London Sep 1968 & London Jan 1970 -- which can't be right, surely?) -- her phrase "my country's capitol" in the "Roses Blue" preamble seems to refer to Washington DC rather than Ottawa, which places the performance outside of North America (and that song itself was probably written after the darker events of 1968 -- the King & RFK assassinations, Chicago and the election of Nixon).
Regardless , it's a great show with wonderful sound ! ENJOY !

If I have the free time, I love to start my day by listening to Joni's live folk club concerts. I wish I had a time machine to take me there, but this is the next best thing. When I hear Joni's early performances I feel inspired all day and her stories float through my head. Thanks x

I love Joni Mitchell's music...but if there are folks in this string who think the government is somehow inducing artists or music corporations to introduce 'shallow, harmless musical dribble' to keep from inciting people, they need to put away the tin-foil hat. Joni is special because of her intelligence and level of talent, which few can hope to equal. It's not a conspiracy. Please, get real.

@Earthdogbonzo3 ........ You are so correct, the gov's been at it since the 50's, what do you think Pat Boone was all about, and not just him, there were quite a few of them in the begining, look it up, I'm sure the info's out there. I don't think they ever gave up though, as you say (feeble tripe) seems to be the mush feeding the minds of today. Now step back and take a look at the world..... it kind of explains itself. Know what I mean?

Anytime hearing Marcie, It comforts me to hear a beautiful woman of such charm to portray her self as lonely as I. The broken hearted lost souls hear her best.

@mishasdream Hi Mishasdream, I love Joni's music, her soul . . .whatever it is that makes my heart swoon when I listen to the haunting magik that permeates her music . . .her guitar . . . That voice. Those inescapable lyrics charged with so much. It is qualities such as those that give rise to hope for our troubled, human selves. Peace
