ABOUT MOVIE HOWRAH BRIDGE :-
The sensuous Madhubala makes her presence felt in a captivating fashion from the time she swings to Asha Bhonsles sensational Aayiye Meherbaan, Baithiye Jaane Jaan. Asha has put her soul in this song and Madhubala, remarkably restrained and glowing in beauty, brings justice with her graceful movements to the tune of O. P. Nayyars melodious music.

This was not Shakti Samants best movie but it was his first as an independent producer and director. And that made Howrah Bridge special even though it happened to be an above average hit. Samant produced and directed some unforgettable movies like China Town, Kashmir Ki Kali, Kati Patang, Amar Prem, Aradhana, Anuraag, Amanush and commanded respect for his professional treatment of the subject. He was a passionate film maker and Howrah Bridge just about achieved the distinction of being an entertainer befitting his status.

Besides bringing legends like Madhubala and Ashok Kumar together, it also featured two noted villains of the industry — K. N. Singh and Madan Puri. And then character actors like Om Prakash, Sundar, Dhumal played their part in making Howrah Bridge an enjoyable movie. The plot had nothing extraordinary to offer. Yet it had its strong moments, and some low too. Ashok Kumar (Prem Kumar) comes to Calcutta from Rangoon in search of his brothers murderers. His brother had eloped with a family treasure and fallen into the trap of Madan Puri (John Chang), a small-time don.

A feature of the movie is Geeta Dutts evergreen Mera Naam Chin Chin Chun, made immortal by a ravishing Helen, then just 18. No cheap pelvic twists and thrusts and yet you want a repeat of Helens charming number.

  • why no mention of Rafi ?

  • It's as if Heaven's own thrill seekers chose OPN, Asha Bhonsle and Moh'd Rafi to fill that need and then decided to let us mortals have some thrill too.The combination never fails to deliver. And Madhubala never looked more angelic than in this clip and in the song Aiye Meherbaan of this movie. Thanks, mastkalandr.
