I disagree with you on the vocals. While Haynes, as you put it quite well, doesn't convey that frenetic chaos, the other side of the coin is that he doesn't overdo it. And Steve going over the top with his voice is the one thing that always puts me off a little when I listen to Humble Pie.
Also, when I first listened to this version, I was almost blown out of my chair by how awesomely fat Warren made the main riff.

I love classic rock and find it very rare to find re-makes that are even easily compared to the original..... this, however, trumps the Humble Pie version in every way IMO.
Thanks for posting this up with such clear sound. I love live performances but finding gems like this with clarity is always nice.

Gov't Mule does a lot of covers. BUT, Warren and the band have their share of bad ass originals that stand on their own. Do yourself a HUGE favor & check out their "Life Before Insanity" album for starters. Afterwards, you might better admire this "Allman Brothers Band" side project for introducing a new generation to some classic music throught their amazing covers. BUT, referring to Gov't Mule as just a "great cover band" ("that's what they do") is acutally an insult and totally incorrect.

Great cover band, but that's what they are. Esier togo back and improve on something. The hard part is creating the original. As a Steve Marriot fan, I will admit this is a good version with god musicians and god vocals but, when it comes to vocals Marrot is very hard to measure up to. Page wanted Marriot before he settled on Plant, and Richards wanted Mariat before settling on Wood. Although being compared to Marrot is one hell of a compliment. Why compare, when you can just enjoy.

This doesn't come close to the origina. The reverb in the rhythm guitar in the original version is just so snazzy. It is more appropriately higher tempo, with a driving drum beat and killer bass parts, and Steve Marriott! I'm sorry, someone mentioned him being always over the top vocally. He isn't wailing away in this song except for the refrain part, and the gravel in his voice is what makes it all sound so genuine. The original didn't need a guitar solo either, that's how good it was!
