Why do you put flaps at 1/4 at takeoff? Doesn't that increase drag = lower speed? Please answer I want to become a pilot someday.

The Cessna 177 Manual calls for 1/4 flaps to shorten takeoff distance. You're on the money, it does increase drag but . . . it also creates additional lift which outweighs the drag.
