This is what you call a "buzzer". Before the era of door bells that played the familiar two-note "ding dong" (on either tuned metal bars called 'reeds' or on tubular chimes called 'bells') you had a choice of two types of electric door bell. If you had a fancy home, you had one that sounded like an old telephone ring. Everyone else had a buzzer. Buzzers were common in small homes and apartments into the fifties and sixties.

@JonasClark The front door and the back door both operate off the same bell shown in the kitchen.  They have different sounds that can be adjusted. Thanks again!

@Mikewatchestube I must say I have to agree with you. It sure is a painfully lame video to watch. I must have been getting way too desperate for ideas for videos when I made this. Either that or I was on way too much medication. LOL Anyway, I wish I could give you the time back that it took you to watch this video but I want to thank you just the same for surviving through it.
