A unique MRI scan of the brains of children who have autism might be the first step in developing an actual biological marker for the disorder. University of Utah researchers have tracked changes in communication between the two hemispheres of the brain.

  • Interesting. I think these types of studies are definitely on to something. However, I am disappointed to see that, as usual, the females and adults are ignored. Furthermore, symptoms are on a continuum. Autism isn't necessarily "set" anywhere. It's not something that be pigeonholed on levels. One may absolutely pass for normal while hiding "severe" traits, and this is especially true for adults who have (naturally, of course) become more self-aware with age.
