Raid on St. Nazaire is a solitaire game from Avalon Hill set in World war 2 (WW2).
http://www.historygamer.com/2010/09/11/raid-on-st-nazaire-board-game/

In this game you play the British raiding party out to destroy as much of the strategically important port of st. Nazaire as you can.

The Germans appear from preset starting positions, throughout the game. You roll for their entry each turn, so on any one turn a number of Germans may appear to foil your plans, or not. Over the course of the game the luck factor evens out somewhat, and you are still left with the task of destroying the place with as little casualities as possible.

  • Nice Review! I played a vassal version, fun but lots of bookkeeping. Have you seen the pegasus bridge version? Came out in Strategy and Tactics magazine #122.

  • @dcfoley thanks. I've heard the name, I may have it in a small collection of SPI games I've never played. Is it any good? Surely this game will be better made though. It's a beautiful board as you can see.

  • @HistoryGamerDotCom It came out of a magazine so the board is just paper on this one. Check it out on board game geek.

I have not played it yet, I have played Raid on Vassal though, lots of fun, but a little too much book keeping for my taste.

  • @dcfoley I checked my mini collection of SPI games and I don't have it. I've got a funny feeling I sold it at a market years ago. doh! Anyway I will be reviewing the 4 x SPI WW2 games that I have at some stage. Checked it out on BGG and its def ringing bells.

  • @HistoryGamerDotCom I look forward to your other reviews. Enjoying your channel.

  • @dcfoley thanks, Stop press. 3 episode review of Jaunta out tomorrow. It's a hilarous game and I was on top form reviewing it as well. Hoping people will enjoy that one.

  • @HistoryGamerDotCom It´s very good as a solitaire wargame, but bloody for english side... The point of decision of this game is the explosion or not of the "Campbelltown", the destroyer disguised and full of explosives.

  • I have played it many times... It´s very difficult to win...

  • @megacamel9 Yeah I think solo has had its day, you've got computer games for that, and even then I'd rather share the experience.

  • Your multi-player idea sounds interesting. 2 or 3 v 1 would be a lot more fun than solo.
