READ THIS FIRST!

first of all, sorry about the bad video quality, but i had to record it with my (cheap) webcam in order to be able to sync in with the microphone recording.

this is a video of my ECG with auscultation sound in real-time, where i do various things to trigger arrhythmia / alter the ECG reading. most of that is explained in the video itself.

i labeled the arrhythmia when it first appeared:
VES means ventricular extrasystole, which is equal to PVC (premature ventricular contraction).
SES means superventricular extrasystole.
LVOT means left ventricular outflow tract.
APEX means tip of the heart.

i am using a Hellige SMU intensive care monitor and a Logitech USB microphone.

  • Serious Question:

Is this curable? Say this person were to start doing cardio, not much at first, but slowly build up over about a year. 'Til he/she is doing about an hour and a half of biking or jogging a day. Can the arrhythmia cease? I just got it within the last week.

I had the worst palpitation I've ever had on Sunday, and ever since then, my heart is like this. Except the 'off-beat' happens less often, and my heart-rate is a bit slower.

Any answers would be much appreciated.

well, doing sports is always healthy (if moderate sports like biking / jogging). harmless extrasystoles / arrhythmia (speak to a doctor to make sure it has no organic cause) may be caused by stress, e.g. adrenaline having this effect on the heart. doing sports can help relieve stress and in general make the body and heart not as "vulnerable", so it may or may not work, same as e.g. omega 3 fatty acids, whitethorn supplements etc. may or may not work; it depends on the person.

Well, I know what the trigger for the bad palpitation was. Sounds kind of childish but there was a bit of a weekend long bender, alcohol only (friends wedding). And I've smoked for the better part of a decade. Needless to say I've quit both since then and a dr. appt. is set up for this upcoming week.

But I exercise an hour everyday and am not overweight at all. Eat really good food, lots of fruits and vegetables, salmon, etc. Just wondering if this is only temporary. God I hope so...

  • @Illumirage

i see, yeah, alcohol can cause cardiac arrhythmia, too. if i drank more than three beer or so, i usually have much more severe arrhythmia the next day. same goes for large caffeine intake. however, i got thoroughly examined and my heart is fine, so i dont really care about it. it's not dangerous, anyway.

but yeah, it's a good idea to check with a doctor to reassure yourself that you can just ignore those extrasystoles. :)

  • may i know what is ses??

    s-exstrasistoles but what is s???

  • @vizantisko

the s stands for superventricular in that case.

  • @bionerd23

Glad you're ok. And thanks for the answers :D

    Keeping my fingers crossed.

  • @D4VEPKN I started having the same symtpoms a few days ago and it lasted over two days. Throughout my adult life I would occasionaly have this happen to me for 10 minutes if not less, then it would go away. But for some reason a few days ago it hit hard and seemed like it would not go away. I couldn't sleep. I searched online and found that a tablespoon of cayenne pepper in 8oz of warm water is supposed to help. Within a half hour my heart went back to normal. And it hasn't happened again!

  • i have same problem:( but is not scary .because problem was smoking.now no more cigarets
