  • @strings3002 Improvising is useful in a couple of ways. If you're taking more than one break on a song, you may want to play the second or third one differently from the first one. Also, there is no way to learn a break to every single bluegrass song that exists. So if you encounter an unknown song in a jam, if you've got a handle on improvising, you can take a break on it, even if you haven't worked out a break for it specifically.
