what is the advantage of having the magazine on top of the gun?

@HellsingHellsingBR it's easier to feed the weapon. instead of the mag spring acting against gravity to pust the rounds up, the spring acts with gravity to push the rounds down.

in france, my grandad was in a group that stormed a german trench. after they had cleared it, there was only the dug out left to clear. a sargeant orded my grandad (who was a bren gunner) to spray the room with bullets. my grandad thought there would'nt be anyone in there because it was so dark. but anyway, he pulled the cocking handle back, and fired, but the bren gun jammed because of all the dust and bits in the air. a few seconds after this a hitlers youth came running out with his hands up.

@HellsingHellsingBR The way I understand it is gravity always helps but mostly you can get down low into the dirt. If you had the mag underneath you cannot get as low. Look at the US .45 Greasegun from WW II and imagine being on your belly and look at how high your head would have to be raised up. I may be wrong but that's the way I understand it. I do for a fact know that this weapon is dead on balls accurate as I have fired one quite a few times. Hiope this helps.
