The family of Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos has yet to hear from his abductors, but police have found the vehicle used in the kidnapping abandoned in a nearby town. Venezuelan police said Ramos is "still alive", without providing further details. The families of major league baseball players are often the target of kidnapping for ransom in Venezuela. Ramos, however, is the first player to be taken. In 2009, the cousin of former Mets pitcher Victor Zambrano was kidnapped and killed. Nine days later, Zambrano's mother was also taken. In 1995, Marlins shortstop Gus Polidor was killed trying to prevent kidnappers from taking his son. In 2004, the mother of former Phillies pitcher Ugueth Urbina was kidnapped and held for five months before being released.
