Welcome to my review of the 1/18 Scale Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 Special Tuned Version made by AUTOart.

If you were lucky enough to snag this model while it was in production, good on ya. It's fantastic! As with pretty much everything AUTOart makes, the detailing is superb and the likeness is spot-on.

The positives are all there. The carbon fiber printing on the hood, the sweet driver's seat, the pop-headlights, I even love how the the parcel shelf is connected by cables and is fully adjustable.

If I had to pick some drawbacks...they'd probably be the fragile license plate on the front, which was broken off before I even removed the model from the box for the first time, and the fact that this model is no longer in production with the "Panda" paint scheme. Sure AUTOart still has it available in red, but it just looks...wrong.

Interestingly AUTOart has made a handful of variations of the AE86 Trueno. There is the standard, no-frills car, which comes in red or white. There is this model which also comes in red or white. Then there is the Japan-only Initial D version. I happen to own the Initial D version as well. It's pretty similar to the Tuned version with the addition of a Fujiwara Tofu Ten (藤原とうふ店) decal as well as rainguards on the windows, a modified interior roof with maplights (as well as a sunroof, even though there is no exterior sunroof), and also a cup of water on the dashboard. Maybe i'll do a video on that version someday...

You might want to invest in this model if you spot one. I'm glad I did!

  • no tofu?

  • @Fosten12 Maybe I'll review the Initial D version someday.

  • do they still make these? any good place to buy?

  • @CrashBandikoot7 Autoart doesn't make the White/Black version anymore. They only make an ugly Red/Black version. Ebay is your best bet to find one.

  • Is the bucket seat's cover made of cotton?

  • @Blarbling Nope. They're rubber. All of the carpets are real, though.

  • looks real awesome but theres only one thing missing..... the fujiwara tofu shop sticker

  • @MrAnsleyt Your point...?

If you read the description, I make it abundantly clear that this is a model. Also, the beginning and end of the video are pretty clear indication.

  • This car is the part of the fifth-generation of the Toyota Corolla lineup. And there are two versions of this car: The two-door coupe, and the three-door hatchback.

  • @MrAnsleyt Look closely at everything... a 4 year old could tell you this is a toy. Nothing gets past you, lawllll.

  • i have this car in forza motorsport 4 is perfect to drift in stock :)

  • The carbon fiber hood ruins it for me, I prefer stock.
