They can run on two, four and even six strokes. There's an Otto cycle, an Atkinson cycle and a Miller cycle, to name a few. But one company headquartered in Massachusetts is developing an internal combustion engine that runs in a completely different way. The Scuderi Group is working on what it calls a split-cycle engine, and it's unlike any other ICE out there.
@chemostrincougar the problem with electric cars is that you still need fossil fuel to charge them. Batteries run out of energy. also, fossil fuel is incredibly efficient for energy to output, solar is incredibly inefficient (about 12%). add to that the costic environmental issues with lithium batteries. if you are so concerned about environmental issues, you should really be concerned about hybrid electric cars.

@ruthlessone3k - the engine is turbo charged. The real innovative points were missed in the video. It's capitalizing on the miller cycle, by splitting the 4 cycle into 2 unique cycles and cylinders (compression - the energy consuming cycle and combustion - the engergy producing cycle). This allows them to push ignition timing without detonation, raise compression ratios, reduced combustion temps, at half the size with more power, better mileage, less emissions.

Scuderi is great but oil companies will just keep raising prices on us.
Grail engine, Vengeance Power, Duke engines, Myt, Ecomotors, Zajac motors, Pattakon, plasmerg, 1valve, asender engine, cyclone power, monolith engines, revetec, skyactiv, shepherd engine.
Gasoline and diesel need more competition.

Correct me if Im wrong, But isn't this kinda like using a super charger. Does it have any benefit over a normal 4 stroke with a super charger?

this will take over electric cars because i dont think electric cars are perfected yet

If this engine is built the Chinese will make a "cold air intake" that will claim to give it 30 more horsepower but the cheap filter will just let dirt into it.

@carbiduis You sir have absolutely no idea what your talking about, so stop!

For those who understand how engines really operate you already know this is a pretty good idea. Given its theoretical fuel savings rivals that of a Miller cycle engine is not particularly exciting, but the real genius of the Split cycle is the storage of work of the compression cycle that is normally wasted under part throttle and braking.

Half the engine is a compressor? Wouldn't a turbo charger be cheaper?

my fail, i want say that normal 4 stroke engine has only 50% efficiency of split cycle engine
