Hello, I have my heart set on taking to the skies on a ppg, but no cash! This video is a revelation to me - I have only just started looking into making my own. I weigh 80kgs, can you please tell me whether this motor would do assuming I modded it the same or are there any other low cost engine options? I am interested in long distance flying.
Regards, Dan.

Hello, the carb is the weak link now but I have drilled the jet out to 100# as it wasn't running well(wouldn't rev over 1500). If power is still insufficient then I'll go for a 390 or Mikuni carb. I would also consider a wilder cam and/or 14cc head instead of 18cc 160 head.
Cheers, Rob.
I am suprised to see it has a nylon gear on the stock cam. I have a couple of these engine but they apear to have one piece rin cams.
What are the specifications of this replacement cam and where did you buy it?

Hi, it is a 'Superbox' spec one from ARC Racing in the USA. .275" lift. I got it as part of 'Superbox' kit but you can get it seperately.
Cheers,
Rob.

Thank You Rob:
I see you stayed with a stock float carb. did you consider a Tillotson HL. Its about the size and would suffer from fuel sloshing around.
I will assume you had the chance to see the performance of the engine before the Super box kit. Do you think its worth it?

Hello,
The purpose of my venture with this engine is to make as cheap a paramotor (ppg) as possible and so I've had to make compromises. The Superbox kit roughly gave me the power I needed with the standard carb (+bigger jet) for a reasonable price and I can build a complete paramotor for less than £1000 where as commercial motors start from £2500 going upto +£5000.
As it's an aviation project I've not had the engine running prior to the mods being fitted.
Cheers,
Rob.

From what I gather the Super box Kit you chose has stock dish piston and compression ration.
Probaly good to keep the stress moderate on the internal engine parts for your aplication.
Very interesting
Thank you for your time

Hi,
Yeah, it has the stock piston in it but the GX160 head does raise the compression a little bit.
I'm glad to be of help,
Rob.
