SMIDS docking assistant system, using combined GPS and GLONASS (sooner with Galileo) setellite antenna mounted in bow and stern of a vessesl, to receive the real time position and moving information from the satellites, and processing with onboard gyro heading information, to generate athwartships velocities bow and stern together with forward and astern velocity, and display such real time information on different displays, and also transmit such information via bluetooth to PDA (Handheld).
Any number of hand held units can be utilised. Whilst bridge operations continue, the Tug master, Dock Superintendent, deckhands and shore team can be fully aware of all ship movements.
SMIDS can assist the Master onboard to control the movement of the vessel with SMIDS clear indication of involuntary ships movement.
Application: docking, berthing, passing narrow passage (Panama Canal) or confined water, dredging, buoy layying, submarine cable/pipes laying, anchore watch, etc.
