  • Is the Transmission-Repair field, a good career path ?

Anybody know what might be best way to pursue a career in this field ?

Are there certain schools or standard requirements, you might recommend ?

    - Any replies or commentary would be appreciated.

  • Transmissions always have been and always will be around in some form or fashion.

They change models and design less than engines do as well. So over a twenty year span and manufacturer will update engine designs to meet fuel economy and regulation requirements.

A good transmission design will be used over and over.

Also, as engines begin to run on alternative fuels and eventually move to all electric powerplants, there will still be a need for transmissions and technicians to service them.

  • its a great tool But I can't justify paying about $100 usd for a tool I will only use once, rather buy a good Torque Wrench, Great videos I got the GM 700r4 DVD and SA book good details

  • i remove them without any tools like this and have had no problems. i am going to be doing a video of a th400 rebuild with a hughes race kit. red alto frictions and kolene steels Kevlar bands and also a manual reverse shift valve body. doing automatic transmissions are easy once you do a couple of them you will be right on your way. only tool i suggest you get is the transmission holder that goes in a vice bolted to a bench so you dont have the tranny rolling around.

  • Guys you should sell those DVD on AMAZON.com! im from latin america and is really difficult to buy some products in some webs! i already have the basic engine building and i need almost all the transmissions DVDs! cheers!

  • I gotta disagree with that, UTI is not the way to go. Spend that money on getting customers instead. Limit your expenses, all you need is about $2,500 worth of tools & a $500/month hole in the wall garage. As long as you are HONEST & RELIABLE the business will flow & you will move up FAST.

  • Wish I had one of these when I rebuilt a Powerglide in my 65 Impala in the early 90's. So freakin simple in design.

  • @TheLiptonGroup you should consider the fact that more and more mechanical devices such as transmitions are being made "non servicable" or the cost of rebuilding is near the cost of replacing.

  • neeeeext... LOL

i love how this guy speak :D
