I think also the situation in Grand Prix racing of the time helped talented drivers rise, the driver mattered more than the car. But my opinion is that the best driver of the 50s was Fangio.

If I were forced to guess then I would also say that Moss was the greatest Formula 1 racer ever. I just can't think anyone who achieved so much is such sub-standard machinery.
