Damien Somerset talks with Marques McCammon from the Aptera Team about the design and market viability of the Aptera 2e. The Aptera 2e is a three wheeled vehicle and was designed for efficiency. This all-electric vehicle can achieve over 100 miles on a single charge. Plug into any standard 110 Volt household outlet for 8 -10 hours and you are ready for your next 100 miles. The shape was inspired by nature so that the vehicle seamlessly slips through the air as opposed to pushing air like most traditional vehicles. This when combined with the lightweight, high-strength composite body, and an estimated annual charging cost of less than $400 makes the Aptera 2e quite possibly the most energy efficient production vehicle in the world. ABOUT THE PROGRESSIVE AUTOMOTIVE X PRIZE

Our goal is to inspire a new generation of viable, safe, affordable and super fuel efficient vehicles that people want to buy.

$10 million in prizes will be awarded in September 2010 to the teams that win a rigorous stage competition for clean, production-capable vehicles that exceed 100 MPG energy equivalent (MPGe). We are proud to announce that the on-track Competition Phase will be hosted at Michigan International Speedway.

  • Did Marques REALLY say that 10% of Americans want to own an Aptera???? I actually have a low Reservation number as an early adopter, but even the strongest advocates will tell you that he is embellishing the appeal a bit. If they land 1% of American automobile sales in 5 years, they will be doing awesome. I mean, if they manage to deliver MY Aptera within 5 years.... ; )

  • @wcabdefense That's a fair point. -Damien

  • @wcabdefense I'd want the 2h

  • The problem is that it is still classified as a motorcycle and therefore in most states you have to wear a helmet to drive.

  • to me the continental mk3 was outstanding , but to big..

  • add morgatio ,s MYT motor to the nose of this aptera? then ya did something

  • look up the cessna centurian center section it looks like aptera funny huh. na the crash energy tranfer is far greater here cessna proves this by droppin them from the sky.. na your safer here HOWEVER this baby will burn like any other car now the windows can be rolled down to crawl out . . na the carbon fraim is still sound..

  • that car is ugly as fuck,,no power brakes and no power steering..chances of survival in an accident ? no thanks

  • I like this car's design a lot, but only 100 miles of electric range for a car that size is an embarrassment, and two entries have forty miles or more MPGe on it. The FVT, X-Tracer, and Li-Ion cars have all have better range. Good enough for a 50 mile round trip and extra.

All of them, including the Aptera, would make marvelous hybrids and I think the Aptera 2H will have a good chance in the world market as a PHEV. Batteries still need to improve for all-electrics to become truly viable.

  • @john4kc OUTSTANDING "Standing out among others of its kind; prominent." Well perhaps everyone can agree that it is outstanding. Whether or not you want to drive one, that is another issue. Go Aptera.

  • @wcabdefense He said "at least 1 in every 10 said it was outstanding". That's just based on liking the design, so that equates to a comfortable potential market. Do they believe that they'll have 10% market share? They aren't saying that at all.
