For the, umm...jerk who called me a rude name for having my chickens out in the cold..would like to point out.
1) The chicken choose to go out. If it's so "cold" then I'm pretty sure they'd be in on the roost together.
2) Chicken's aren't wimps. Just because it's cold does not mean it will die. So far (last 3 years) our chickens have survived. I'll let you know if they don't.
3) They have a heat lamp.
So chill, dude.

Enjoyed the tour of your chicken coop, I laughed out loud. Your hens are beautiful and your narrative describing your birds is absolutely charming. I can tell you are a wonderful, caring animal love. Thank you for sharing.

Depending on where you live you should check the local ordinances before setting up for chickens. I know in Europe they are a little more receptive to the idea of homeowners keeping chickens, but in the US most places have ordinances prohibiting livestock ownership in non-farm areas. You wouldn't want to commit to the expense of raising chickens only to have the city inspector send you a summons. Even in places that allow chickens, roosters may still be illegal because of the noise.

@tymawr101 I'm guessing your parents don't want you to have them because they think you aren't responsible enough... in which case, you need to prove to them you are. Even if you have the money, maybe you should save your own to be able to build a coop and get the chickens. If you really really want them, you can earn the money for them, and that really shows responsibility.
