Jerry Dean - Hotel Espanola

A parody of The Eagles' Hotel California. If you are from New Mexico, you will probably laugh.

Back in college (Early 90's. Yea, I know I'm old), my good friend Gil wrote numerous parody songs. The one that everyone loved most was Hotel Espanola. I typed it up, made prints and passed them around to friends.

About 10 years later, another friend asked about it, so I dug the old Word document off my ancient 486 and emailed it to her. The she emailed it to her friends and they emailed it to their friends, etc. Another friend emailed it to T.J. Trout at 94 Rock and soon, this rendition by Jerry Dean y Los Tres Amigos hit the airwaves. (Check out Jerry Dean's YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/binkmon )

Here are the lyrics as originally authored by Gil. For some reason, they opted to replace, "cholo," with, "vato."

On a dark desert highway
Cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of tortillas
Rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance
I saw an Impala's tail lights
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night

There he stood in the driveway
Right in front of the house

This could be Questa or

Then he lit up a big joint

There were cholos down the corridor
I thought I heard them cry

His car is carefully painted
It's not a Mercedes Benz

Used to be his friend's

Some drive to buy booze

So he jacked up the hydros

I've been cruising down this street since 1969

And still those cholos come cruising from far away

Upholstered with a touch
He said...
I'd paint the Last Supper on the front hood, but it would cost too much

And at his Grandma's casa
We gathered for the feast
She can eat the beans and chile
But she just can't chew the meat

Last thing I remember
I was squealing down the street
I had to find the highway back to the town I passed last week

Relax, said the cholo
We are programmed to smoke weed
You can cruise here anytime you like
But you can never speed.
