Glassworks (1981) by Philip Glass. Movement I: Opening. Conducted by David Felberg. Ikuko Kanda, viola; James Holland, cello; Valerie Potter & Jesse Tatum, flute; James T Shields, bass clarinet; Ashley Kelly & Jamie Schippers, soprano saxophone; Jennifer Macke & Matt Harris, tenor saxophone; Peter Ulffers & Nathan Ukens, French horn; Conor Hanick, piano.
I love the song, but I find the interpretation anti-cerebral and overly-romanticized. Part of the pain is the gnawing quality of even rhythm and tone - he is too gentle, too nice. Ruins it for me.
