People feeding the deer right off the dock at Miyajima, Japan. Miyajima is an Island about a half an hour south west of Hiroshima, quite a lovely one at that. It has a famous red torii gate in the ocean (one of Japan's three famous scenic views) and a really pleasant mountain to climb. There are cable cars that you can take to the top of the mountain for about 1100 yen for one way, at the top you will find more deer and little monkeys casually meandering the mountainside. I would say the Hiroshima area really deserves at least two days. One in the city where you can see the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, and the second on Miyajima island. Although if you have some extra time you wouldn't be waisting it while spending a few days on Miyajima itself, as the island has what look like some nice beaches and hotels in addition to its other main attractions.
