Holiday heartbreak from The Manhattans. Released in 1966 on Carnival Records (Car-524), "Alone On New Year's Eve" is one of their finest tracks. The harmonies on the chorus may have been borrowed from The Temptations' "Ol Man River", but that's OK! It lends itself very well to this tune. The mid-60s Carnival period was (I believe) The Manhattans best era. Less commercial, but definitely more soulful. Happy New Year everybody & enjoy this blast from the past!!!

Blue wrote this song, "Smitty" sang lead in his usual pleading soulful straight from the heart style.

@yourgrandmadarling Thanks for your kind words. Maybe it's time to dust off those old 45s and play them again. There's nothing like 'em! Merry Christmas......

stunnng harmonies and very early exponent of soul music and soul group harmony -- this is a good a song as they did -- but , everything from this Carnival Label period is 5 stars. Sonny Bivens was an extraordinary song writer and played guitar on some early sides

I agree, stellapitbull...and I have to say, for someone who favorites mostly James Taylor & Joni Mitchell ( I love them both, too!), you certainly know your Manhattans! Thanx for tuning in..come back anytime!
