This is the first in another Union One series of videos (U1TV) - Why Be Union! U1TV went out and asked new union members why they chose to join a union. In this first video I went out and talked with second year apprentices from IBEW, Local 481 in Indianapolis. The answers are as surprising as they are varied. The one constant theme is that unions provide a safer work environment for the worker and a better life for the worker's family.

  • @ ilovechipotle85 the non-union companies in Toronto don't offer shit. You have to be union, work for you daddys company, or start your own if you want to be successful in this trade over here.

  • @gsesteve dude if you think working electrical in the union is shit then the non union will seriously kick you in the ass. get ready to bend over unless you work for your daddy. If I could go back actually I would not have gotten into this trade.

  • ALL L:IES!!!.DO NOT!!!! ISAY...DO NOT!!!! join the union unlesss your daddys daddys blah blah third gen IBEW.If you are honest and hard working they WILL screw you!!!No one gets to work unless you are connected. The training however is good.I have 13 yrs. now and am looking to jump ship at the first opportunity!!!.This org.is rotten and corrupt from the top down.Electricians are some of the biggest pricks you will ever meet.Pick a different trade or work non union.bigots and nepotism prevail!!.

  • being union is to not be afraid of shop owners taking advantage of the employee .. not being afraid of losing your job your a human being not a slave

  • who are they comparing wages, job security, and retirement to? a lot of non union companies offer great wages, insurance, etc. it seems like no one in this video really knows why union is better than non union. i want to know the pros and cons of both because i have been considering going union, but this video doesn't really answer any of my questions.
