  • When you use IF, you MUST use WERE! I admit it's a common even with college professors.

  • Shouldn't there be an apostrophe in there, i.e. '...if you saw your boyfriend/girlfrienD'S diary'??

  • @davismortiis but how were is used for plural and oly was is used for singular

  • @bmxymierda No, it isn't. You need to use the subjunctive tense. You don't use was with this tense. Look it up.

    Isn't it BETTER to say WERE but still gramatically correct to use WAS?

  • @globalenglishtesol I disagree. WAS is not correct.

  • A more proper use of the subjunctive would certainly be: "If he were rich..."
