On JamCruise you never know what is going to happen, or what musician you might catch playing a random set... This year, on JamCruise 7, On the 3rd day there was a 2 hour break after the sail-away party from Costa Maya, which Bonerama played, and before any other bands were scheduled to play.
I was wandering around the boat, and heard someone playing piano off in the distance. It just so happened that Zach Gill, who is the keyboardist for Animal Liberation Orchestra and Jack Johnson, had sat down at this beautiful grand piano with a 3 level audience in the round, and played an unannounced hour long (or so) set. Please also notice, Dan Lebowitz, ALO guitarist, is sitting right next to Zach, watching him KILL iT!
I came upon it near the end, when he was playing The Beatles' "Hey Jude." I was able to capture what I saw up to the end of the memory card I had. I turned to go back to my room to get the other, bigger, card that I had, and I heard him start to play the opening notes of Piano Man, which I had just called out for before walking away.... I decided, wisely, to turn back and enjoy the heck out of it since I wouldn't be able to capture that on video....
So, this was the next to last song Zach played on the unannounced set on JamCruise 7, on Jamuary 7th, 2009 at approximately 9PM EST. He played several others before it, and they are probably up on You Tube already.... He also played Piano Man after this, so if anyone captured that, I would LOVE to see it... I remember it being pretty sweet...
