Why We Don't Have Flying Cars, Yet

@dustinlanter The symbol at the begining of the video is a trefoil it is described by
x=(2+cos 3t)cos 2t
y = (2+cos 3t)sin 2t
z = sin 3t
It continuously loops in around itself. There is no sequence of Reidemeister moves that will untie a trefoil.
Treyarch's logo is a single loop with a single twist. If flattened their logo would just be a circle.

Another problem you have with the flying car concept is maintenance. If a car breaks down on the side of the road, it usually doesn't cause an accident. If a flying car breaks down, it would crash causing damage. Most people are to lazy or too poor to do preventative maintenance.

why dont we have flying cars? be to easy to rob a bank, get away with murder and air planes would go out of business and they take a lot of fuel which has a chain reaction. its easier to make money without them

Why don't we have flying cars? Picture a 15 year old girl flying and texting. Or your grandma. Or the person that almost ran you off the road today *flying a car*.

lol @ the guy crashing his own car into himself

@MarkProffitt i see your point! but cant we make a small engine ? instead of a full size vtol engine that only needs about 2 car batteries?/if you break the limit of 200ft theres a safe plane like a parachute!,extra batterys incase of energy shortage or a stalling for a safe landing

omg too many long comments!

why not just ride a really big bird. like a condor or something. they fly themselves. you just have to watch out for the poo.

I do disagree with the natural selection+survival of the fittest ideas applied to why we do have something. a very wrong headed argument. ask cavemen about fire. fire good, fire bad arguments rage on, even today apparently.
there is very real technology currently availiable, this won't be done because every flying car is a missile in the hands of a human being who may or may not be an idiot (*as shown in your video)

SUV's ar actually less safe than a regular sedan . #1 during the crash test of an SUV , the big front wheels go directly into drivers legs #2 SUV is a lot easier to flip over. #3 SUV is harder to stop #4 SUV has soft suspension which makes it harder to steer away from impact. I still dont know why people think they are safe. I call SUV drivers STUPID. Because there is nothing safe about them
why cany you make a volt shaped as a car with a 200 hight limit!

@100computerkid Electric powered cars that draw power from the road could travel faster than 200 mph & be nearly perfectly safe. This also solves the problem of large expensive batteries with low range an don't work well in the cold, plus the electricity could be generated from any source including wind, water, and solar. Since the vehicles would avoid crashes they could be lighter thus cost less and be more efficient to operate. There are many steps needed to move to that.

Planes are already had the ability to fly themselves for some time now. And Google driver less cars are getting quite good also. It is actually allot easier to make an autopilot than a driver less car as the reason its so hard to train pilots is it involves allot of maths and reading lots of instruments simultaneously which is what computers do well. While driving involves mainly spacial recognition which comes naturally to humans but is hard to program.

@MrMonkeybat There're many technically easy thing that aren't commercially viable because they just don't provide significant more value. That is a lot of what is happening with flying cars and why automated ground cars will happen first even though automated flying vehicles already do exist. The reasons and ways people use cars just doesn't fit with flying for the developed regions. Reliable but dangerous flying vehicles might be successful in undeveloped areas. watch?v=isZZ8NZ7vuk

well unless you mean cars are small vehicle used by public, we already have helicopter and vtol planes. that already consider a flying cars uh.. small vehicle. but not everyone can fly it, only pilot licensed for it. well, cars need license to drive too. its not that bad. we now already have flying bus; airbus :P
i have idea that inside and outside the supposed to be flying cars would be inflated airbag. so crash between fluffy airbag only no harm.

@shamlix An easier, cheaper, and more beneficial way would be to have a flexible spherical cage around the flying vehicle. That would always be working, re-usable, and make landing easier. The flexible cage could even double as an omni-directional wheel. /watch?v=pF0uLnMoQZA
