God, sometimes I wish that I could be back in ancient times, away from all the problems and complications of the modern world, when people succeeded or failed on their own hard work and merit alone. When people worried about the next harvest, or keeping the fire high, instead of money and politics, and instead of the internet and the Omnipresent media, the people looked forward to the nights spent in merry company with a story or song to sing, and a cup of mead in their hand.

@AxiTheReal Sometimes I wish that as well. Then I think on how women were treated, and how I would most likely be burned at the stake- if not for my sharp tongue then for my religion-, and how I would either be married off at a young age to a man I don't love, or be raped during a raid and never be suitable for marriage. Those times had beautiful landscape, and I just wish that more of that landscape and architecture had survived.

@AthenesicMoon It was mainly in Christian and Roman societies in which women were taken advantage of, confined to certain roles, and married against their will. Helvetic and Germanic society was largely much different from this. The Romans were surprised to find that, when they invaded a Ceutrones settlement, the women picked up weapons and began defending their homes along with the men. :)

@AthenesicMoon Actually, in many Germanic and Helvetic tribes, women were regarded with a certain prescience. According to a quote from a history program, "The women have a certain sanctity. The men do not despise their councils, nor do they make light of their answers." This can be partially attributed to the existence of wise women, or priestesses, which were like doctors and priests combined. At least, this was true in some tribes, and I wouldn't have wanted to live in others.

@AxiTheReal hmm I woulnt be too sure about that, there was much more presence of war and persecution, the gauls for example had to worry about defending themselves from the romans, and they didnt exactly succeed in that...
