I am studying sound production for television and film at university and I decided to do this MGS4 trailer with all my own sound on it. ABSOLUTLY EVERYTHING YOU HEAR (and I mean everything) is done by me from footsteps to gun Foley to explosions, the only exception is the metal gear solid theme tune played briefly in the fight scene at the beginning and the small amount of Japanese dialogue, they were lifted from the original. Those of you with good ears should be-able to hear a huge difference between mine and the original.
Please remember I have posted this purely for the audio not for the visual as you have probably seen the trailer many times before. Please let me know if you think the sound is believable, after all that is the greatest complement for a sound designer. Oh and Just so you know sometimes youll hear music cut off and skip to another scene this is because Ive had to cut some parts out to lower the file size to the 100MB youtube limit, so it dosen't flow aswell my full version, please bear this in mind.
cheers!

  • Very nice job, it is believable. One thing I would say is that at some points the sound is too loud in some instances. You might want to tone down the reloading sound a bit and the cqc knife. IMO its ok to have the sound loud during the war scenes and you did a good job distinguishing the sounds between the Geko's and the tanks.

    Best of luck,

  • Whoa dude. If all of those sounds were done by you than you are awesome. How did you make all of those sounds? Did you found some online as well? I find that sound is one of the most important part of a video that gets overlooked in ammature films.

  • Oh, also, from 51-54, you can tell that there was a sound there that was stretched. I'm not sure if that was your intention, but it's reallt noticeable.

  • Great job! I'd agree with mellbourne to some extent--a little more ambiance is needed. Other than that, some of the sounds needed to be a bit more subtle, such as the knife, and the cigarette being lit at the end.

On a whole though, this was excellent!

  • i think so.

    the 3 looks more better.

i never tried it because anyone was not like it on my coutry.

also i didn't like tiny thing it looks stupid.

  • Go study... sound is good but not enought good, First Plan sound is not to realistic. The're to loud and clear (with no ambience sounds like little reverberation of sound). So keep practice. Regards from Poland.

  • Very well done. I miss the noises from the gekko's, but otherwise, 10/10!

  • I don't like Snakes Japanese voice. David Hayter FTW

  • Extremely well done. I forgot I was listening to a rescored/redesigned video! I would have to agree with the above poster about the cqc knife sounds. They are on the loud side. But you did a phenomenal job!

  • Snake is Hitler...right...

Sounds were really good. Only bit i really suggest toning down is the CQC knife drawing and sheathing noise. It sounded like a Samurai Sword XD
