  • Our school's top band played this at a christmas concert festival we call Crystals.

This is good. But our band is ten times better :(

in this the trumpet soloist isn't all that great. Unless that's just the recording. Also you can't really hear the extreme dynamics this song has. Some of them are okay like in 2:15 but other than that you can't hear much of a difference. The clarinets are really good though :)

This is my all time favorite band song. Next to Vesuvius

  • Perhaps your band sounded better, but they probably had more than one day to learn the music! :)

  • Thanks so much for posting this....my district band is performing this, and listening to the recording really helped me get a better feel of how it's supposed to work. (:

  • @MySoulBelongs2Music : Glad it helped you. They sight-read this the day before the concert, and it was done as an encore.

  • @RHSVanguard2010 i have a question... were you in this or is your son/daughter in it? O=

  • My daughter was in it. She was the 7th chair clarinet. I can just barely pick her out of this video. She won't let me post if I zoom in on her.

  • @CatClaws27 yeah your band probably did sound better. This was also the 2nd time we ever looked at the piece. I'd like to hear your band on their 2nd run through. And yeah the principal trumpet had some trouble this concert. I was the principal trombonist so I was playing right next to him all weekend. Poor guy just blew out his chops. 3-4 straight days of 8 hour rehearsals ain't easy.

  • Awesome performance!!!! Woooo go clarinets!!!! Good job on the runs!!!! :D

  • We are playing this for festivals this year. It is such an awesome piece for percussion. I play crash cymbals on it. It is amazing!

  • The marching adaptation of this is insane. Still the same music, but marching this... risky, but if done right, it sounds awesome.

  • our middle school band can play this and we won state honor band

  • @oohdahloli7 Maybe you guys took it too fast? For me, 2008 all-state was the first time I saw the piece. I played it again with my university wind ensemble a year and a half later, where we took it much slower than this. I guess what I mean is: I've done it slower, and you've done it faster, so perhaps this is actually the right tempo.

  • @starrymilkshake lol...we had soooo many clarinets. I don't remember how many anymore. I think we had 21 clarinets in wind symphony. I do know that there were 88 of us in the 3 all-state groups together. I was actually surprised that we weren't as overpowering as I thought we'd be. In my high school band, I could be playing what I'd consider softly and in recordings I'd still be pretty much the only one heard. NOT the case here. But either way, even if we were too loud, there's an explanation.

  • @ThatOneLittlePerson Sorry, I accidentally replied to the wrong person. IT was meant for the person below.

  • @ThatOneLittlePerson Hey, I'm just flipping through this randomly. I was 8th chair clarinet!! That's so cool!

  • this sounds really slow
