@leslie12180420 Ugly bird? That is one of the cutest beings on Earth I have ever seen!
-
@nath565656 That's exactly why this group of birds are called "frogmouths". ^_^
-
True. Nighthawk sp... Most likely a Common Nighthawk. ;-)
-
It is a Common Nighthawk, a relative of the Whipoorwill.

@lmo61210 I hate to disappoint everyone, but this is not a whippoorwill. It is the common nighthawk . . . a cousin of the whippoorwill. Whippoorwills do NOT act like this. This is something that the nighthawk often does in broad daylight . . . resting in plain sight. A whippoorwill would practically never do this unless it had lost all senses of BEING a whippoorwill. Go read some bird guides on the subject. BT

Whippoorwills are part of the night jar family. They fly open-mouthed at night to catch insects. Truly interesting family of birds!
-
like an owl their pretty much lifeless during the day, im surprised perched out in the opened like that, where any predator can snatch it

They're so cool looking, like most creatures of the night! The beak is just this litte spur but the mouth is actually huge. No doubt so they can catch flying insects. Nice job catching one of film.
