It Gets Better Europe

As Vice President of the European Commission (EU) I want all young people to know that they are valued and welcome in European life - indeed societies everywhere.
No one who is gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender - or who thinks they might be, or who others think are LGBT - should suffer or feel like taking their life and letting the bullies win!

@serafimpantea This has everything to do with the Digital Agenda. With the internet young people who are struggling or thinking about killing themselves have more places to turn for support. Having said that, this is an important issue. I have a portfolio, but I have a wider responsibility - to stand up for European values of freedom and solidarity and there is no freedom if young people do not feel wanted and safe in our society

Jedes Volk soll das Recht haben selbst zu bestimmen wie es mit Homosexuellen umgeht. In Deutschland sind die akzeptiert aber in arabischen Ländern sieht die Situation eben anders aus. Artikel 2 UN Charta. Kroes sollte sich auf die digitalen Märkte konzentrieren und den Amerikanern mehr in den Arsch treten. Wichtig ist, dass das Volk seine eigenen Geschicke lenken kann und von ausländischen Einflüssen beschirmen kann.

@ryangheath The EU hands out millions of ICT and telekom funding contracts but is incapable to enforce open market rules, think of the open standards failure, think of AT&T's net neutrality lobbying. Kroes has not the guts to enforce Austrian economics. The American lobby tells her what to provide state aid for and those guys who receive the wasteful contracts do nothing to help European digital markets and reward the actual change agents.

Die EU will unsere Familien und Völker zerstören und uns alle zu vollwertigen Arbeitssklaven fürs die Großunternehmen umerziehen. Kein Wunder, dass Kroes den Perversen den Hof macht. Menschen, die keine eigene Familie haben wollen, hat man früher einfach in den Krieg oder ins Kloster geschickt.. Aber nun greift der grenzenlose Individualismus um sich.

Though I must confess, I was unaware of the need for this project in the EU countries, I'm so glad that they appear to be on top of things! How impressive that they were able to get such a prominent member of their governing body to address European youth! Thank you my friend for uploading this!

I think the recent comments below are very unfair. I work in Ms Kroes' department in Brussels. She is warm and down-to-earth. I know she volunteered to do this, no one had to ask her. And give her a break - she's 69 and straight. Talking about women's inequality is her way of showing that she understands discrimination. And as a gay man I KNOW the internet has made a huge difference to the process of coming out. so of course she should mention it. p.s. EU ICT is not selling out to US.

@Anrwi Well, it just bugs me that she's obviously doing it to promote her own agenda. I feel she's not being sincere. She just does not come accross as this warm caring person who truely is worried about bullying of gay youth, from the moment she started talking about feminism, gay rights and the internet (her digital agenda). But I guess that's just politics.

Actually, though the project addresses the bullying of ALL teens (you are correct there), its founder, Dan Savage, intended it SPECIFICALLY for gay youth.

As he put it, those who get bullied for other reasons find refuge at home or their place of worship.

With the gay youth, however, suicide rates are much higher because the bullying doesn't stop at home, place of worship, political campaign, etc.

Regardless of Kroes' agenda, her voice, considering her position, is much appreciated.
