  • @MrSleazey Good to hear- other that your lathe not being large enough for the turning. It's such a simple turn, you may be able to get a local shop to do it reasonably- or use it as an excuse to get a larger machine...lol. Be sure to keep us posted with your progress and what you think about the grinder when done. Good luck!! G.

  • Yep, you are right, I was able to do it finally. It was the bearing retaining ring that confused me.

    I spent the evening milling the mounting pads on the tables flat and to the same thickness; the factory milling job and the paint were very rough. I am going to have problem truing up the wheel mounting plates. My lathe is just not quite big enough. I can mount the shaft between centers, but there is no room for the compound table and the tool post. Gotta find someone with a bigger lathe.

  • @MrSleazey The bushings should come out with the shaft without removing the pins. Take off the rubber shield and watch the proper video part again. Unless they changed something, you should be able to get the shaft out without removing the pins and bushings- I was able to. Perhaps you can send me some good pics that i can look at or post a video? PM me for the address if needed. Keep me posted. G.

  • In my grinder, the motor end caps won't allow the shaft to pass thru because of the pins. There is a bushing, with a flange and a rubber dust shield attached, and the pins cannot pass thru the bushings. So I can't pull the shaft from the motor without getting at least one of the pins out. To mount the shaft on the lathe, I have to get both pins out to get both motor end caps off of the shaft.

    BTW, great videos, they are what inspired me to get the grinder in the first place!

  • @MrSleazey I didn't ever remove the pins to true things up. I just indexed everything with marks and trued up the back plates on the lathe. If you really want to remove the pins, you could use side cutters to grab it low and pry them out. You would probably need to get replacement pins if you do this. If it were me, I would leave them as they are and true the back plates as shown in the videos. Hope this helps, G.

  • ghostses, how do you remove the split roll pin? My grinder has a pin at each end that retains a bushing with a rubber dust shield, and that bushing can't pass over the protruding end of the split roll pin. The pin is in a blind hole, so I can't just drive it out with a pin punch.
