From http://www.End-Your-Sleep-Deprivation.com and Stanford Sleep and Dreams. "Drowsiness is Red Alert" is a key-in phrase designed to protect society from being drowsy in dangerous situations, in particular behind the wheel of an automobile.

Thousands of people die every year as a result of drowsy driving, and everybody who falls asleep at the wheel thinks it will never happen to them. But it does. Don't let it happen to you. Remember "Drowsiness is red alert!"

This music video was created by:

Dana Edwards (aka Danana Drowsy Rhymes)
David Zheng (aka DavidJZ)

and features:

Tina Miller (aka Tinaa) with stunning vocals on the chorus
and Kevin Laube (aka LaubeTube)

Lyrics:

Sleep and dreams, yo that's what we call this
Imma tell y'all bout homeostasis
It stems from the balance of sleep and wake
The less you get, the more you wanna take
Sleep debt hella simple yeah it is
Sleep debt be cumulative
If you don't get enough, it's gonna be so crazy tough
To make it up, the other days
But just to make it easy here are some ways

You wanna know how to get sleep back
You can sleep more at night, or take a nap
Make sure you're sleeping for ten or more
Or else your wellness, sleep won't restore

Obstructive sleep apnea, obstructive fo sho
You wake up every night, sometimes every minute,
Tired all the time, you're just not feeling it

Get yo' sleep

Super most importantly though,
You shouldn't drive when you're tired fo sho'
Just remember this little verse, drowsiness is red alert

Took a little class called "Sleep and Dreams", and here's the main theme
That sleep and dreams aren't what they seem
A lack of education in the population leads to sleep deprivation
Nights of short duration, and to Doctor Dement, it's a source of consternation
Here's why: leads to poor concentration
In the day when you're taking a test
Or you're racing in a race with you legs, trying your best
You'll fail and choke and get out breath
Don't you know, you'll be really slow

When you don't get your shut-eye in the nighttime
It's the right time, to get your rest before you write rhymes, real tight lines
Close your eyes and then you'll fly high with your mental kite high in the night sky
You might lie, but you'll be lying in your bed
And that's where you gotta sleep or you'll be dead
YOu heard right: sleep deprivation can kill you
When you're driving in a car with only one hour of sleep
You won't get far before you hit a parked car and your head hits the tarmac
Now your skull's cracked, lying on your back
You won't lack scars, you'll be seeing stars
On the far side your mom and dad will want you back

You're a victim of drowsy driving
Your BAC was high
Cause you didn't get your shut-eye, that rapid eye
That's why we repeat this line in our class, it's the line that we live by

Sittin' on the couch working on my flow, watchin' time pass by real slow
Eyelids feeling droopy, couple yawns escape me,
Wonderin', can I stay awake please?

It's been a long week without any sleep
The works's building up and I'm ready to weep
Class early morning, homework all night
College minus sleep just ain't that tight

But thanks to my favorite class, sleep and dreams
I've learned that good sleep has a couple common themes
I need to work out a better schedule
Then I won't fall asleep and look like a fool

More sleep can help me be more productive,
If I don't get enough somethin's gonna give
Sleep debt builds up, yeah that's right
You can't make it up with enough in just one night

What I'm trying to do is impart a lesson,
Sleep is good, think about getting some
You say there's a lot of work, yo I feel you
Just remember, sleep's important too
