We wonder across red tape to explore the old mysterious abandoned bunker in Fort Totten, NY. The silence of the fort demands it's well deserved cautiousness and respect. We teenagers tresspassed due to our curious and exploratory nature. Enjoy.

  • Kids? Nope.

  • @1webslingers Kids, yes. We're 16 and 17.

  • It's not that mysterious. You won't find anything new in there. I grew up on Fort Totten, and I know just about every inch of the Old Fort and the post in general. The Old Fort's been pretty much picked apart by now. It's a very interesting place, but there's nothing especially spooky about it. No, you're not going to die in there, unless you cut yourself on something rusty.

It's a WWII "battery" not "bunker".

  • @1webslingers It was our first time. We were joking of homeless murderers haha. It was pretty awesome, but there isn't a need to crap on our parade. We were just kids having fun.

  • dude that can cave in

  • @tiberiousss :: Since I didn't use the word "only" (as in your phrase "only used during WW2...") my comment was not wrong. The post was very active in its day.

  • Id like to see a few more haunted locations. The kinds that people "go there and never return."

  • we use to run the mps throu there back when i was 12....and that not the scares part of that place...lol

  • @1webslingers No offense was meant or intented. As I stated it's history goes beyond that of WW2. Had your statement been a bit more complete I would have not felt the need to correct you. I'm sure your very knowledgeable on the subject but the statement you made to the young man was false. It was false in the sense that you made it sound like it was only used during WW2. You have since corrected yourself. Interesting site.

I'm intimately familiar with the post's history. My family lived there from 1968-1981, and I know every inch by heart. The former post historian, Jack Fein, told me that I was the only person he'd met that knew almost as much about the post as he did. He offered me his job, in fact. I run the Fort Totten website and Facebook group.

  • @tiberiousss : While the Old Fort was built before the Civil War as a defense of the northern approach to NY Harbor, the post was active for training, administration and housing through the Vietnam era & beyond. Its coastal artillery was in use until 1935. I was referring to the use of the word "battery", which is basically a group of similar weapons vs. "bunker", which is a storage place for weapons & ammo.

  • @1webslingers The forts history goes further back than WWII, it was never a WWII battery. If I'm not mistaken, it was a civil war fortress. It was used in the 50's as an air defence site. It was abandoned in the mid 70's as far as any military use was concerned.

  • I love this video! Please, bring dust filter masks next time! You're gonna hurt your lungs. Eye protection, flash lights, gloves, boots, all of that stuff helps. Also, always let someone who's not going with you know exactly where you're gonna be in case you get hurt or get busted, etc. Also, if you ever do this and get caught DON'T RUN. Apologize to what ever authoritative dick head is giving you shit for being there and cooperate to avoid arrest. And never bring something illegal with you.

  • Is this considered trespassing? I really wanna check it out and take some photos
